Which planner

There are good reasons to choose each of these apps.
Here’s where Sonto fits, and where you might prefer another.

want to follow through on.

Start with what you want from the year. Choose your quarterly goals, make a plan for the week, then decide what to do today. Sonto guides you through each session and reminds you when it’s time to plan again.

Built for your Apple devices.

Sonto is a native app on Mac, iPhone and iPad. Each version is designed for the device you’re using, with the same planning tools across all three.

Use calendars already connected to your device, sync through iCloud and add Sonto complications to your Apple Watch face. These are part of how Sonto works on Apple devices.

Your project can stay in Linear.

A coding project might have hundreds of issues. In Sonto, plan time to work on the project. When you start, open Linear to see what needs doing.

Sonto deliberately doesn’t sync tasks from other task managers. You choose what belongs in your plan, without bringing the whole backlog with it. Guided planning helps you make those choices in the context of your longer-term goals.

Sonto and Todoist

Todoist

When Todoist makes sense

You need task management across devices, with personal projects and shared work. Todoist supports team task assignment and a broad range of integrations.

When to consider Sonto

You want a native Apple app built around your own goals. Sonto guides you through choosing priorities for the year, quarter, week and day, with your device’s calendars and private iCloud sync.

Sonto and Akiflow

Akiflow

When Akiflow makes sense

You want tasks from different tools in a universal inbox, with time blocking and an AI assistant to help manage your calendar.

When to consider Sonto

You prefer to leave detailed tasks in their existing tools and decide which work deserves time this week. Sonto guides that decision from your longer-term goals. Its ChatGPT plugin and Claude Connector can help you plan and reflect without an ongoing feed of imported tasks.

Sonto and Routine

Routine

When Routine makes sense

You want tasks, notes, meetings and projects in a customisable workspace, with information from connected tools. Routine’s Notion integration, for example, lets you bring databases into that workspace.

When to consider Sonto

You want a place to plan your time while keeping your other tools. Sonto guides you from annual goals to daily tasks, with regular reviews, without asking you to bring your work into a single workspace.

A few other approaches.

Some apps focus on scheduling your time. Others coordinate a whole team. That can matter more than the length of a feature list.

Motion

Motion combines AI task scheduling with project management. It’s worth a look if you want software to build your schedule. Sonto guides you through choosing priorities and making your own plan.

Reclaim

Reclaim automatically finds room for focus time, habits, tasks and meetings. That’s useful when calendar coordination is the problem. Sonto helps you choose the goals and tasks you want to make time for.

OmniFocus

OmniFocus offers detailed personal task and project management on Apple devices. Sonto is worth trying if you want guided goal planning and reviews to be part of your everyday task manager.

Trello

Trello organises work on boards, on your own or with a team. Sonto takes a different approach: a personal planning routine that connects annual goals to the work you choose each week.

Asana

Asana coordinates projects and goals across a team. Sonto is for your own plans and priorities; it can sit alongside a team’s project management system.

ClickUp

ClickUp brings projects, documents, chat and AI into a shared workspace. Sonto focuses on personal goal planning, daily tasks and reflection in an Apple app.
